Lockie Chapman is an abstract painter and educator based in Edina, Minnesota. Her work is built through process — layers of acrylic, mark, and material that accumulate into paintings with weight and complexity. Nothing in her work arrives quickly. Each piece is a record of decisions made and reconsidered, surfaces revealed and obscured.

Chapman holds degrees in Art History and Art Education from the University of Minnesota. Her professional life has moved through institutions — arts administration at Walker Art Center and the American Film Institute, decades of teaching in K–12 classrooms, and now abstract painting at the Edina Art Center — and that trajectory shows up in the work. Teaching has sharpened how she thinks about visual language: what a mark does, what color carries, what a painting asks of the person standing in front of it.
